Oltrarno - or Ultrarno, as it was called - was first estabilished
around the 13th century, when only the Santo Stefano bridge
(later renamed PonteVecchio) existed. On the other side
of the river there was a wide open space with fields,
vineyards and olive groves called Caselline (small houses)
or Da la Cuculia |
